When we pull up, the truck-mounted unit stays on the truck and we run hose and wand inside. The crew walks the rooms with you first, notes the spots that matter, and moves what furniture needs moving. Then we dry vacuum. That step pulls out the loose sand and grit that would otherwise turn to mud the moment water hits it. Next comes the pre-spray, matched to what is actually in the carpet, and we let it dwell. We agitate with a groomer or a rotary brush so the solution reaches the base of the pile instead of sitting on top. After that, the extraction pass: hot water in, soil and solution out, overlapping strokes, slow enough to lift the water back. We finish by setting air movers on the damp rooms and, in closed apartments, a dehumidifier if the air is already heavy. Most jobs here are steam carpet cleaning, which is hot water extraction. It is the right choice for ground-in soil, pet traffic, and anything a manufacturer warranty covers, because Shaw, Mohawk, Karastan, Stainmaster, Anderson Tuftex and Masland all point to extraction as the maintenance method. Carpet shampooing is the better call on older wool and heavily matted commercial-grade loop where we want mechanical agitation doing more of the work and less water going down. Carpet deodorizing is not a perfume pass; it treats the source, which is usually urine that has reached the backing or a pad that stayed damp too long. On stains, we are direct. Bleach spots, some dye stains from drink mixes and cosmetics, rust that has sat, and old pet marks that have already changed the fiber color are permanent. We work the Los Angeles Westside and South Bay coastal plain plus inland valley pockets, and the carpet tells us which side of that line a house sits on. There are two carpet-loading regimes here. Coastal cities get fine beach sand, salt aerosol and persistent marine-layer damp that stretches drying times and breeds musty odor in closed apartments, so we plan for extra air movers and a longer dry window. Inland and valley cities get dry dusty air, wind-blown grit, wildfire ash in autumn Santa Ana events and heavy pollen loads in spring, which means more dry vacuuming up front. There are almost no basements region-wide; slab-on-grade and raised-foundation construction dominate, so no below-grade carpet, but slab-level rooms hold cold and moisture and need more drying time than upstairs bedrooms. Housing eras run from 1920s bungalows and Spanish revivals through dense postwar 1950s–60s stucco tract and apartment construction to 1990s–2000s hillside builds, and each era brings its own subfloor and pile. A large renter population across the LA basin means we do a steady volume of turnover cleans, landlord-required move-out cleaning and heavy-traffic apartment carpet, usually on a tight schedule. High pet ownership across single-family neighborhoods means odor work is routine here, not an add-on we have to explain.
